IF YOU are looking to grow your business – and the individuals within your business – have you considered professional coaching and development? LC Training and Consultancy can give you the tools to do just that. Owned and operated by Lou Campbell, LC Training and Consultancy provides personal and professional coaching, personal development consultancy, workshop and training facilitation, and E-DISC profiling.

Lou is an educator, trainer, facilitator, consultant, coach and a learning specialist who is passionate about working with people. She has over 20 years of experience in public and private education, and is now inspiring people to live empowered, balanced, happy and successful lives. “Coaching and personal development training are a way forward,” Lou said. “They open the door to endless opportunities and the ability to turn your dreams into goals and into reality.”

Lou has created the Happiness Toolbox and the Professional Toolbox, which guide, coach and teach people how to live happy and enriched lives. Her personal and professional coaching packages assist individuals and businesses to close the gap between where they are now in their lives and where they want to be.

All professionals and workplaces can also benefit from E-DISC profiling – one of the tools inside the Professional Toolbox. An E-DISC individual profile can show strengths and areas to develop; attitude, motivation and things you try to avoid; what tasks take more or less energy to complete; and your style – Dominant, Influencer, Stability, Compliant (DISC). E-DISC can drive performance of a business by showing how individuals contribute and work together. “It is an invaluable tool for all professionals and for all workplaces,” Lou said. “Whether you are the owner of the business, in a leadership role, a team member, an employee or a casual worker, E-DISC provides powerful insights into who you are and how you contribute to the business.” Lou Campbell

How resourcefully meeting Our 6 Core Needs brings balance and wholeness back into our lives!

Within both The Happiness Toolbox and The Professional Toolbox are a myriad of topics and ideas that aim to inspire, excite, re-energise and provide insights into why we do what we do and how to change what we do if we think we need to make changes.

I am going to refer to one of the great topics inside both TOOLBOXES – The 6 Core Needs.

I work a lot with clients who when they first come to me, SAY – I need more balance in my life. My life is so busy, I’m over-committed, I want to balance my work and family life, I feel stuck, I’m not sure how to make changes in my life and so on.

What’s interesting is – balance doesn’t mean everything in our lives is evenly weighted or divided into equal portions. That won’t satisfy our needs. Balance looks different for each and every one of us and it holds a different meaning for each of us. Balance does not mean that everything should be flat-lined and even. We need different amounts of things to make us feel balanced.

One way to address balance and to bring harmony back into our lives is to look at the 6 Core Needs and assess how we are meeting these needs.

So, what are our 6 Core Needs?

Certainty – also known as Comfort, Security, Stability, Order, Predictability

Uncertainty – also known as Variety, Adventure, Challenge, Surprise, Chaos

Significance / Respect – we need to feel wanted and special, that we matter and are worthy of love

Love and Connection – is all about our need to communicate, be unified, intimacy and having solid relationships

Growth – is about constant emotional and intellectual development

Contribution – ‘It’s not about me, it’s about we!’ It’s about giving back!

How can we meet our Core Needs Resourcefully?

Certainty – met through backing yourself, having routines that support, having a plan, being organised and having certainty of self

Uncertainty – met through playfulness, having different hobbies, creative pursuits, laughter, having fun and being adventurous

Significance / Respect – met through being a leader of self and others, volunteer work, speaking up, achieving a goal, being a master in your field

Love and Connection – met through people by sharing, supporting, connecting with people, having self-worth

Growth – We need to grow to develop to achieve. If we don’t grow, we will feel stagnant. We grow to contribute!

Contribution – met through going beyond ourselves, by giving, caring, protecting and serving others

A balancing act

To feel balanced, we not only need to meet our 6 Core Needs resourcefully, but we need to have the right balance of each need. As individuals, we all have our own unique formula of meeting and balancing our needs that serves us. There is no right or wrong, it’s what feels right to us!

So, what is the code to creating happiness and fulfilment?

We need to balance Certainty and Uncertainty – some people need more certainty than uncertainty, some people are more driven by uncertainty than certainty. Both of these needs are important but the ratio of each need you require is unique to you!

We need to balance Significance and Love and Connection – some people are more driven by significance than love and connection, some people are more driven by Love and Connection than Significance. Both of these needs are also vital, but the amount of each you need is unique to you!

We all need Growth and we all need to Contribute. These needs are the needs of self and of others. They contribute to complete happiness, joy and fulfilment!

WANT TO KNOW MORE ABOUT THE 6 CORE NEEDS?

You will learn –

the characteristics of resourcefully and un-resourcefully meeting each need

what your top drivers are (your top 2 needs)

how much Certainty and how much Uncertainty you need

how much Significance versus Love and Connection you need

to analyse how you are currently meeting your needs

to implement strategies to improve resourcefulness where required

how to achieve ultimate happiness, joy and success

SMART Goal Setting

The majority of my work this month, and in subsequent months has been teaching SMART goal setting to individuals and to workplaces.

The ability to set meaningful goals contributes to our overall success, achievements, fulfilment and happiness.

Goals equal success. We all have our own definition of success which is great. What matters is that we know what success means to us and we know what we ultimately want to accomplish in our lives, both personally and professionally.

Setting goals is a simple yet powerful tool to use to master new skills, learn new concepts, raise the bar on strengths, stretch out of our comfort zones and obtain new results.

THE KEY IS – KNOWING WHERE YOU ARE GOING AND KNOWING WHAT YOU WANT TO ACHIEVE!

The SMART Approach to Goal Setting

S – SIMPLE A goal written as a simple sentence is enough!

M – MEASUREABLE Achieving a goal needs to be measured. We need evidence.

A – APPEALING Goals need to be appealing – we must want to achieve them!

R – REALISTIC Goals must be realistic and able to be achieved with a plan and action!

T – TIME-BOUND Have a timeframe to achieve your goal. Begin with the end in mind!

Steps to Successful Goal Setting

Brainstorm – Make a list of your strengths and stretches. What do you want to achieve, explore, learn or become better at?

Start by choosing one thing you would like to improve on, learn or develop

Turn it into a SMART goal

Write it down

Identify possible obstacles

Identify knowledge and skills needed to achieve the goal

Identify any support people

Write a plan, organised in steps

Take action – keep in motion – persistence is the key

Reflect and evaluate along the way

Make any necessary modifications

Acknowledge your achievements and successes along the way

As Diana Sharf Hunt quoted, “Goals are dreams with deadlines.”

Goal Setting Sessions are available to individuals and workplaces. Contact me to book a 1:1 SMART Goal Setting Session or to book a Workplace Goal Setting Training Workshop.

Our need to be included and to belong is powerful and influences the way we feel about ourselves, our self and social confidence and the amount of happiness in our lives. It is not age specific, we all want to feel that we belong!

What does inclusion and belonging give us?

boosts self esteem

makes us feel significant, special and purposeful

means that we matter, that we add value and that we have special qualities to share

enhances our self-belief

boosts our self and social confidence

helps us to meet our 6 core needs resourcefully

encourages above the line thinking

assists us to make resourceful decisions

enables us to include others

an awareness that belonging is a need that everyone has and that including others helps to meet your own need for contribution

What could happen when we don’t feel included or that we belong?

our self-esteem could become affected

we could begin to doubt ourselves

it may intensify other universal fears that we may also have (fear of not being loved, not being good enough and of being judged)

we may lack self and social confidence and become shy and withdrawn

we could say no to new experiences and opportunities

we could become emotional and reactional

we may begin to act un-resourcefully and feel that we have a lack of choice

our thinking may become below the line

we may feel anxious, distracted, emotional, unloved

So, what should we do if we feel that we don’t belong?

Acknowledge how we feel and determine to what extent this fear is holding us back

Talk to someone that we trust – tell them how we are feeling

Seek advice on how to join a group and participate in a group

Get professional help to find out where this fear of not belonging is coming from and to develop strategies to overcome these concerns and take steps to move forward

Think about activities / hobbies (could be sporting, recreational, craft, creative, cooking, book clubs, study groups and so on) that we enjoy and then choose a group to join

Whatever your age and stage in life, feeling and knowing that we belong is a vital component to living a happy and fulfilled life.

The solution to everything is in your thinking!

The quality of our thoughts impact the decisions we make, our choices, our actions and determines the quality of each and every day! Our thinking controls our feelings, which controls our mindset. Our mindset, which is made up of our beliefs, values and experiences, controls how we live our life. Our mindset is made up of above and below the line thinking patterns.

So what does the word mindset mean?

Our mindset, put simply, is a collection of thoughts, beliefs and stories that we tell ourselves about who we are, how we work and how we react to things and circumstances. It also comprises our opinion of things like; learning, growing and changing and our ability to embrace and cope with adversity and challenges.

Our mindset is made up of conscious thoughts, the thoughts we are aware of at any given moment, and unconscious thoughts. Unconscious thoughts are thoughts that are running in the background that contribute to our choice of action at any given moment.

Our mindset determines how we FEEL (our emotions) and it also determines our perceptions, which is the way we perceive or SEE ourselves and the world around us. Our perceptions and how we feel determine our behaviour and the experiences that we choose to either have or not have!

Within our mindset, as already mentioned, we have above and below the line thinking patterns.

Characteristics of Above and Below the Line Thinking Patterns

Above the Line Thinking –

Is positive, proactive and resourceful

Belief that the solution to everything is in your thinking

There is an awareness of choice

Responsibility and accountability is taken for all decisions and actions

Demonstrates self-awareness and ability to be reflective

It’s all about feedback – There is no such a thing as failure, only feedback

Below the Line Thinking –

Is negative, un-resourceful and reactional

It is emotionally driven

There is an illusion of a lack of choice or NO choice

It is Fear driven

Feelings of being the victim and stories of why you CAN’T live here

Blame, judgement, hopelessness and feelings of failure live here

The life we are currently living is the one we have created for ourselves. Our mindset has been a major factor in what we have created. Hence, the importance of nurturing a healthy, vibrant and above the line MINDSET is paramount!

E-DISC Profiling is one of the wonderful TOOLS that lives inside the Professional Toolbox and is available to all Professionals and all workplaces.

Imagine Knowing ………

All of your many strengths and being aware of your development areas

Your attributes, motivators, communication style, decision making style and things that you may try to avoid

Understanding the things that require a little energy for you to complete and the things that require a lot of energy to complete

Your own style (Dominant / Influencer / Stability / Compliant) – the energy types that you are high and/or low in

The characteristics, qualities and traits that sit within the 4 Energy Types

Your primary relationship role – understanding your attitude towards team work, your role in a team, your role as decision maker, your role as a motivator and as a performer and how you contribute to the advancement of the group

IMAGINE KNOWING all of this about yourself?

An E-DISC individual Profile can give you all of this information!

It doesn’t stop there!

E-Disc can drive the performance of your business.

Imagine not only knowing about yourself, but knowing how you contribute to your team and how your team contributes to the growth, productivity, culture and success of the whole business ultimately leading to achieving high end KPI’s and increasing ROA.

Imagine Knowing ……….

How to improve your own work performance

Your own style and being able to identify the style of others in your team and in your workplace

That effective communication is critical in all types of interactions and be able to improve your effectiveness with different styles

You have access to additional information – office style, customer service style, entrepreneurial style, information technology style, leadership style, management style, project style, sales style and training style

E-DISC is an invaluable tool for all professionals and for all workplaces. Whether you are the owner of the business, in a leadership role, a team member, an employee or a casual worker, E-DISC provides powerful insights into who you are and how you contribute to the business.
What you focus on is what you will get! This is a simple statement with a powerful message.

Our focus at any given moment determines our happiness and our results. It drives our decision making and has a massive impact on which pathway or pathways we choose to travel. Our focus determines how we filter all of the millions of pieces of information that are flying around us at every given moment. We focus on what we believe to be true and will focus on things that back up our thinking and beliefs.

It is important to focus on the things that really matter and that encourage positivity, growth, success, fulfilment and happiness. Our focus needs to be ‘above the line’ to ensure we are getting the results we want and living the life we want. If we let our focus slip, to being below the line, our happiness and success will be impacted. A below the line focus is driven by negativity, reactive and emotional behaviour, feelings of hopelessness and the illusion of lack of choice.

Your focus is like that of a camera. If you look through the lens of your camera, what pictures are you taking? What are you searching for? What can you see right now? Where is your focus? What part of your life are you focusing on? What is your focus telling you? What beliefs are you attaching to your focus? Is your focus positive and proactive or is it negative and destructive?

Are you focusing on what’s important?

It’s important to –

Take shots of the meaningful things!

Focus on the good, the happy, the special moments!

Crop and enlarge the uplifting and inspirational times!

Delete the thoughts that discourage you from chasing your dreams!

Zoom in on the moments that bring joy and happiness!

Create photos that you will treasure for a lifetime!

Living a BUSY Life

How often do you use the word ‘busy’? How often do you refer to BE-ing busy? Do you tell people how BUSY you are?

Many people live their lives in a constant state of busy-ness! Every day is busy! They perceive this as normal, as productive, as how life is in today’s world! Believe me, I am no stranger to feeling busy and have great expertise in always BE-ing busy and rushing from one errand or commitment to the next! What I have learnt in the past 7 months is that I no longer want to live my life in such a state of BUSYness and that I can still do all of the things I want to do and without feeling or acting busy!

Are you always feeling and BE-Ing busy? Do you rush from one thing to the next? Do you ever stop to enjoy a moment or take time to reflect? Do you have a million things on the go at once and you’re just not sure what to do first?

We need to stop thinking that BUSY is a sign of achievement! Have you thought about what you’re not doing when you are doing the busy thing? Have you thought about what you are avoiding or what you may be hiding from? There’s are reasons why you choose to be so busy and it’s more than just having lots of things to do and responsibilities!

Instead of being BUSY – How about reframing it to – I am being consistently productive?? This small reframe changes the meaning and reduces the stress, pressure and overwhelm of feeling constantly busy!!! You can still tick the boxes and get things done – just without the anxiety and high pressure!

We are human BEings not Human DOings! So take time in your consistently productive day to just BE! Stop, think, reflect, enjoy, laugh and BE consistently productive without the pressure!
